Last month, we explored the importance of adaptability for success in all areas of life. This month, we’re diving deeper into two key ingredients of adaptability: creativity and innovation. These skills are essential not only for navigating everyday challenges but also for achieving long-term success in CCAB Programs.
Think about it: how can we adjust to new situations or find fresh solutions without tapping into our creative and innovative potential? Whether it’s in the kitchen or the workplace, we’re constantly being asked to adapt, improve, and evolve – and that’s where innovation comes in!

Recently, at our Go Cook Pop-up restaurant, a student shared how much they loved the creative freedom they found in our kitchen. Whether it was experimenting with culinary tools, adding a unique twist to a recipe, or artfully plating a colorful amuse-bouche, our students are constantly encouraged to explore and innovate!

At CCAB, creativity and innovation extend far beyond the culinary arts. They’re woven into the fabric of our culture. We believe in continuous improvement, crafting programs and learning experiences that empower students with the skills and tools they need to thrive. From cooking classes and continuing education workshops to culinary and workforce training programs, we inspire students to tap into their inner artists and innovators.

One program that truly exemplifies this commitment is our Entrepreneur Empowerment Program (EEP). Innovation is a core pillar of EEP, providing aspiring small business owners with the knowledge and strategies to grow and scale their ventures. Let’s hear from Abbie Jones about her experience with creativity and innovation during and after completing EEP.

CCAB: What did you learn about innovation while in the EEP program?

Abbie: One thing that was really helpful was learning from someone like Chef who is so creative and innovative. Hearing stories about different problems he’s tackled and how he did that helped me realize there are many ways to solve a problem.

CCAB: How has what you learned about innovation helped you in your career and/or life?

Abbie: Being a small business owner, I always tend to live in my own bubble. EEP gave me a chance to rethink how I do things and learn from my group and Chef how to do things differently, or even better! The EEP experience taught me to dream bigger and encouraged me to ask things like “Why not us?” “Why just regional and not national!?”. Chef inspired me to take it one step further and use my imagination to explore all possibilities.

CCAB: Are there any big changes you made in your business since the EEP Program?

Abbie: One big change since taking the EEP is that I learned to let go of some things in order to free up time and space to work on my other business, Jonesin’ For a Treat. I took time to step back and think about what kind of business owner I wanted to be instead of just doing things the same way I always did them.

CCAB: What experience or memory was your biggest takeaway from the EEP Program?

Abbie: One person being successful can bring success to a lot of people. So, my takeaway was that we should make connections of all kinds, support each other to do the right thing, and that with the right motivation anything is possible!
