The Lab Rules: Safety, Gear, & Conduct

Welcome to the Kitchen Laboratory

At Culinary Concepts AB, we believe the best way to learn is by doing—but in a professional kitchen, “doing” requires discipline. We treat our Junior Creators like the chefs of tomorrow. These rules ensure every creator stays safe, focused, and ready to innovate.

1. The Creator’s Uniform (Safety First)

To work in the Lab, every student must arrive prepared. This is our primary defense against heat, spills, and sharp tools.

  • Footwear: Closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Sneakers or kitchen clogs are perfect. For safety reasons, students wearing sandals, flip-flops, or Crocs (with holes) will not be permitted to work at the active kitchen stations.

  • Attire: We provide professional aprons! We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that can handle a little “creative” (messy) work.

  • Hair: Long hair must be tied back securely before entering the station to maintain hygiene and safety.

2. Chef’s Commands (Conduct)

The kitchen is a high-speed environment where communication is key. To maintain our signature 9:1 student-to-chef ratio, we follow these professional guidelines:

  • Listening: Creators are expected to follow all instructions from the Lead Chef immediately and without hesitation.

  • Tool Safety: Knives, torches, and heat sources are only used after proper safety training and under direct supervision.

  • Respect the Station: We practice Mise-en-Place—keeping our space clean and our tools organized. Respect for equipment and fellow creators is our #1 priority.

  • Professionalism: Disruptive or unsafe behavior may result in a “time-out” from the kitchen station to ensure the safety of the entire group.

3. Sustainable Habits (Taking the Lab Home)

We teach our Junior Creators to respect the ingredients and reduce waste where we can.

  • The To-Go Strategy: We provide standard to-go containers and bags so creators can bring their masterpieces home to share with the family.

  • The Eco-Bonus: We highly encourage creators to bring their own clean, reusable containers (like Tupperware) from home! It’s a great way to build sustainable kitchen habits and ensures those signature dishes make it home perfectly intact.

4. Health & Allergic Awareness

While we are pros at navigating “food curiosities,” please keep the following in mind:

  • Non-Allergen Free: While we practice strict cross-contamination prevention and honor the notes in your child’s profile, our kitchen uses flour, nuts, dairy, and other common allergens.

  • Illness: If your creator is feeling under the weather, please keep them home to rest. A healthy kitchen is a happy kitchen.
