Cooking Class Instructor

About the job:  We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Senior Culinary Instructor to lead Culinary training programs, skills-based workshops, and junior instructors. CCAB’s award-winning, innovative training programs teach life and occupational skills to members of our community seeking a vocational path in the culinary arts. Our programs are designed to reach individuals with an underlying passion for cooking and a clear motivation to grow personally and professionally– we focus on cultivating the mindset and skills that will help our students grow their careers. In addition to learning a range of key culinary skills, graduates earn nationally recognized industry certificates. We also offer skill-building workshops and cooking classes.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Helping to create a workplace and classroom culture that centers the CCAB values of Unity, Communication, Adaptability, Accountability, Innovation, and Integrity
  • Teaching and working closely with other culinary instructors and staff to coordinate training programs, contribute to curriculum development, and ensure a cohesive and consistent learning experience for all students.
  • Oversee course logistics, which includes procuring ingredients, maintaining equipment, managing inventory, and communicating with employer partners to explore career opportunities for students.
  • Planning and coordinating culinary events, workshops, and guest lectures to introduce students to a variety of cuisines, cooking styles, and industry professionals, broadening their culinary knowledge and exposure.
  • Ability to both cook and teach simultaneously, conducting hands-on cooking demonstrations where you guide and assist students in preparing various dishes, helping them refine their skills while providing constructive feedback.
  • Guiding and mentoring students, offering career advice, sharing industry insights, and fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages creativity and professional growth.
  • Assessing the progress of students through practical exams, projects, and written assignments, providing feedback and suggestions for improvement, and monitoring their overall development.
  • Supervise and support training new instructors, including seasonal menu and recipe development, course logistics, ingredient purchases, and other related responsibilities.
  • Maintain and build relationships with local employer partners, community partners, and other key stakeholders  
  • Ensure classroom and student compliance with health and safety rules and regulations
  • Remain current with industry trends, certifications, and educational advancements in the culinary field, attend workshops and seminars, or pursue additional training to continuously enhance your own culinary expertise and teaching skills.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of culinary experience, including teaching and training experience
  • Servsafe manager certification (or equivalent too) 
  • Relationship-oriented commitment to help “grow the business”
  • Demonstrated time management and detail‐oriented skills.  
  • Ability to learn from students’ participation, to demonstrate fair and consistent behavior in all matters, and to show compassion without being ineffectual.   
  • Calm, level, and professional demeanor in all circumstances
  • Stable personal transportation to allow travel throughout the local region
  • Ability to use personal background and life experience to connect with others who have experienced adversity

Cooking Class Instructor

About the job:

We’re currently looking for passionate and knowledgeable Private and Public Cooking Class Instructors to join our team. At CCAB, we offer a variety of cooking classes, ranging from independent recipe classes to immersive farm-to-table cooking experiences. Our class sizes cater to intimate gatherings of 2-12 students, giving both instructors and guests the perfect space to connect, learn, and share. You’ll enjoy a flexible schedule and above-average compensation as a contracted instructor. It’s a fantastic opportunity for those who love cooking and teaching.

Core Responsibilities:

Instruction and demonstration: 

  • Ability to both cook and teach simultaneously. 
  • Ability to demonstrate proper cooking methods and provide step-by-step instructions to help students develop their skills.
  • Deliver instructional sessions and immersive cooking experiences for CCAB’s independent recipe classes and farm-to-table cooking experiences. 
  • Using CCAB’s systems, create and deliver lessons on various cooking techniques, food preparation, knife skills, and culinary theories. 
  • Within 90 days of employment, all contractors must receive ServSafe training credentials or equivalent food handling certification. 

Mentoring and guidance: 

  • Culinary instructors act as mentors, providing guidance and support to all students and guests, meeting them where they are on their culinary journey

Classroom management: 

    • Instructors maintain a positive classroom environment, promoting collaboration, teamwork, and respect. 
    • Manage class logistics, including ingredient orders, inventory management, and correspondence with guests for a scheduled class.
    • Ensure all cooking classes are in compliance with health and safety rules and regulations. 
    • Your duties in the kitchen include maintaining kitchen standards, ensuring cleanliness and organization after each class, and resetting the kitchen.

Kitchen Steward

About the job: We are looking for experienced dishwashers to join our team. CCAB is a cooking school that offers award-winning, innovative cooking classes, workshops, and training programs that teach life and occupational skills. Our kitchen provides a safe, friendly, educational workplace that allows all team members to share, learn and grow.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Wash dishes, pans, utensils, etc., using dishwashers or by hand
  • Maintain cleanliness in the dishwashing station, as well as all kitchen and prep stations
  • Stock cleaning supplies, kitchenware, and dishes in their respective areas
  • Carefully sort all dishware and flatware to ensure none are lost or disposed of
  • Assists with line maintenance, sweeping, mopping, and clearing dirty dishes
  • Assist with breaking and cleaning both stoves and hoods
  • Remove trash regularly, disposing of it in the designated area
  • Support team members and managers with daily cleaning tasks
  • Attention to detail and sanitation rules
  • Assist with polishing kitchen walls and tables as needed

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Work experience as a dishwasher or in a restaurant environment
  • Hands-on experience with washing dishes by hand
  • Ability to follow instructions and help with various tasks as needed
  • Must be able to communicate with other culinary team members clearly
  • Availability to work in shifts, during weekends and evenings
  • Be a team player
  • Must be disciplined and self-motivated
  • Demonstrated time management and detail‐oriented skills
  • Drivers licenses and stable personal transportation to allow travel throughout the local Virginia region
